Palm Tree Plant Pot

¥273.00

Martha Todd's Palm Tree Plant Pot is inspired by Lucian Freud’s drawing The Palm Tree which is on permanent display in the Freud Museum London.

This pastel, chalk and ink drawing was given as a gift by Lucian Freud to his aunt Anna Freud. The palm tree, which Freud bought from a garden centre in St John's Wood, became part of his studio for many years. It appears in a number of his paintings, including The Painter's Room 1943-4, and Interior in Paddington 1951.

Lucian Freud’s early paintings are often associated with surrealism, depicting plants and animals, before the artist’s subjects progressed to his more famous portraits and studies of figures.

Martha Todd RCA MA is an artist working from her studio in North London. Her work is often conceptual and normally involves sculpting figurative forms, both human and animal. She makes work for exhibitions and on commission, and is currently researching for her PhD at the University for the Creative Arts.

Her Palm Tree Plant Pots are made from press-moulded terracotta with iron oxide and glaze. They have a bees wax polished finish.
