Psychotherapy - refers to the treatment of emotional or psychological problems and is derived from the Greek psychee meaning breath, spirit or soul, and therapeea  which means healing or treatment. 

Ancient Greek philosophers from Plato in Republic to Aristotle in On Psyche to Thales of Miletus developed elaborate theories on the concept of the psyche. They were also the first to identify mental illness as a medical condition and recognised the value of treating it with encouragement and consoling words.
