The Art of the Erotic

A new publication by Phaidon
From Roman sculptures of nude male torsos to Tracey Emin's masturbatory drawings, The Art of the Erotic covers a vast history of sexualised imagery in art. This fabric-bound hardback opens like splaying legs into a bronze-lined inner layer, beginning with an introduction by British writer, Rowan Pelling, famous for her work as the editor of the Erotic Review. This is followed by approximately 150 colour plates of art from all over the world in various mediums. The final chapter, titled "Captions", gives an in-depth artwork-by-artwork analysis situating each featured piece into the greater history of erotic art.
